Orla Whelan is a contemporary Irish artist whose practice is rooted in painting. She holds an MA in Visual Arts Practices from IADT, Dublin (2007), MA European Fine Art from Winchester School of Art, Barcelona (2001) and BA Fine Art from National College of Art & Design, Dublin (1997).

Solo exhibitions include In Paint, In Teeth, In Mountains, In Stars, The LAB, Dublin (2012), Seeing In Black, Roscommon Art Centre, Roscommon (2011), At the Heart of Chance, Draiocht, Dublin (2008), Outside at The Return, Goethe Instituit , Dublin (2007) and Overtime, Archeus Fine Art, London (2002). Selected group exhibitions include; COE 15, Claremorris, Mayo (2015), Periodical Review #4, Ormston House, Limerick & Pallas Projects, Dublin (2014, 2015), There, Not There (5 Contemporary Painters) at Crawford Art Gallery, Cork (2008) and Trapezium at the LAB, Dublin (2008).

Orla has participated in studio residencies at Studio 468, Dublin (2013), The Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin (2011), Draiocht, Dublin (2008) and the VCCA, Virginia, USA (2002). She has received awards from The Arts Council of Ireland, South Dublin County Council, and the Tyrone Guthrie Centre. Orla is founder of the artists collective AtHomeStudios (est. 2013).
